Otagan Synods.
[Fsb Pbkbs Association.! DUNEDIN, Oct. 30. The Diocesan Synod was opened this afternoon, Archdeacon Sfcocker, in the absence of the Bishop, presiding. Dr Belcher, Bishop's Commissary, read a brief r port. At the request of the Grand Secretary of the Good Templars, it was decided to receive a deputation from that body. Among the notices of motion is one to provide parishes with a mode of relief from the ministrations of clergymen whose doctrine, &c, are such as to alienate & majority of the parishioners, although possibly not such as to obtain a removal on appeal to the Ecclesiastical Courts. The Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland was opened this afternoon. The Moderator, the " Rev J. Baird, referred to the death of the Hon Dr Menzies, and gave an address on the latent power o£ the Church. The Salmond controversy, it is believed, iB likely to be revived. Usually, when Committees are appointed, no opposition iB raised ; but when the motion to appoint a Record Committee was made, an amendment was made proposing an entirely new Committee. Among the nobices of motion is one to hold the next sitting 1 at Invercargill.
