• ■ — . —^-». MRS BUENS. ENFORCING- THE RATING ACT. [Per Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 27. Mrs Burns, injured last week at the Mount Eden railway station, died last night. The City Council have resolved to bring into operation the clauses of "The Rating Act, 1882," and amendments. These deal especially with the recovery of rates, making the occupier of premises primarily responsible, and after him the owner or mortgagee. Failing satisfaction of claim, the Council has power. to sell or. lease the property upon which rates are due. The Council will at once enforce these clauses in the collection of rates. .
