COUNTRY NEWS.
■ * Oxford. — A concert and ball in aid of the funds of the Oxford Brass Sand will take placa on Friday evening in the Town Hall, West Oxford. An attractive programme has been arranged, and should ensure a large attendance. In addition to the vocal numbers, the Btind will render several selections, and will no doubt sustain the prestige acquired under the excellent training of Mr Gordon. Cricket* — A match was played on Saturday between the Eussley and Templeton teams, and resulted in a victory for the former by twenty-one runs on the first innings. Scores: — Eussley, 64 (E. Hack 14 and Cooper 10) and 44 (Mayo 11 and Cosgrove 10) ; Templeton, 43 and two wickets for five runs (byes 17 was the only double-figure scorer). Cooper and Mayo divided the bowling honours for Eussley, and Gudsell and Scott for Templeton. Only six of the selected team for Templeton played, the others having to be picked up by the way. Orangeism. — A summoned meeting of the Southbridge True Blue Lodge was held on Friday evening. The W.M. presided, and there was a good attendance of brethren. The following officers were duly installed for the ensuing term : — W.W., Bro E. C. Burns ; D.M., Bro James Morrison ; 1.G., Bro E. Armstrong ; Secretary, Bro C. Tilleyshort ; Treasurer, Bro J. M'Gregor; Chaplain, Bro J. N. Coxon j First Committeeman, Bro D. M'Cormack. Two new members were duly elected, and initiated members of the Order, and after transacting the usual Lodge business, the Lodge was closed in due form. AsHBUBTON FaBMEBS* Co- OPERATIVE Association. — A meeting of the Provisional Directors of the projected Farmers' Co-operative Association at Ashburton was held on Saturday. A memorandum of association was drawn up and signed, and a prospectus was completed. The Company 13 to be started with a nominal capital of .£50.000 in 10,000 shares of .£5 each, of which 2500 shares are to be issued at once, 103tobe paid on application, 10s on allotment, and further calls not to exceed 10a each at intervals of not less than three months. A number of shares were subscribed for. The Christchurch Association declined to open a branch in Ashburton, but expressed sympathy with the project, and promised all the assistance in their power.
