The Departure of Sir W. F. D. Jervois.
• ■ TO THB EDITOR. Sir,— There appears to be an immense amount of regret felt by the people of this Cotony at the prospect of losing the esteemed services of His Excellency Sir W. P. Drummond Jetvois, KG., &c, .as of the Colony. No one can yregrefc his probable removal more than I •do, las lam confident that a better Governor jcanhot be obtained. Bat to look at it in itanofther light, I feel confident that his reTno«ral will be of immense advantage to the ACoJony, Never in its whole history have we-been more in need of friends in the Old Country to establish a renewed confidence in our vast resources, and was there ever a man better capable of eulogising them, in the right quarter than our present Governor. Much as we shall miss him, let us part with him with good grace, knowing that he is likely to do us more /good in Downing street and the world's centre than in hia capacity of Governor here.— ' I am, &c, MARK TAPLEY. P.S.— By all means let us give him a .jgood " send off " though. I leave this suggestion for the powers that be to put into ■execution at the proper time.
ThbTown Clock. — The City Council have consented to take over the entire charge of the Post Office clock, as the (Government declines to maintain- it-anj longer.
