John Ellis, a compositor, a recent arrival from Anckland, made a savage attack npon the landlady of the Custom Honse Hotel -with a fire-shovel. Mr Cooper, a boarding-house-keeper, on interfering, tvaa also assaulted and ont on the head. Ellis was •arrested and taken to the look-up. DEOWNED. WELLINGTON, August 12. David Mabey, aged ten, while crossing' the Hutt river yesterday, was drowned, j Hiß hone fell, and the ourrent oarried the rider away. The body haa not yet been THE MOKAU COMMISSION. The Mokau Commission, has returned to Wellington, and it is understood that Jones -will submit himself for examination, and -will also call several witnesses.
