MR HEERICK'S BEPOET FOE JULY< From July 9 to August 9 there have been given away at the Men's Destitute Home and the City Mission Home 1573 meals, at a coßfc of rather less than 2d per meal. The number of beds fmade up waß 775, there having been an average of twenty-five inmates daily. The co3t of keep was, including rent, firing, &c, about iS2O. Subscriptions received during the month amounted to £23 10a 6d, the balance at Bank being ;840 33. Out-standing-accounts and bills for the month were paid to the amount of 11s, leaving at present in hand 2a Gd. Included m the expenditure is the f amisldng, rent, wages, outdoor aid, coal, and other necessary expenses of the Homes, the great expenses having been in furnishing, &c. There is now belonging to the Mission Homes, furniture, &c, to the value of £80 which, when deducted from the .£lls subscriptions received, bring the cost of maintaming the Homes, outdoor relief, that has been, given, and other expenses, to leas than J220. The, following has been given away during the month through the Homes:— Coal, 21cwt to 20 persons ; food (groceries, meat, &c.) to the value of M among 38 poor persons;-cloth-ing as follows :— -23 men's suits, 21 pairs of trousers and 5. new pairs, 12 new coats and 14 worn coats, 22 vesta, 29 shirts, 3 new pairs of boots, 15 worn ditto/6hats, 36 pair socks, 2 now macintoshes, 6 new boys' suits, 6 worn ditto, 10 parcels of women's clothing, 6 dresses, 1 new dress, 6. shawls, 0 new ulafcera, 4-iiew bonnets, 5 worn ditto, 2 pairs new boots, 6 paira worn ditto ; clothing, new and worn, was distributed among 2S children— 6 new jackets, Sgirls^new cloaks, 17 girls' new hats, 8 •ne\vj>airs boots, 10 pairs worn ditto, 15 new scarves j bread to 39 j>ersons; blankets—4- new pairs, three worn ditto; kitchen utensils to poor family; assisting 6 men to place 3 oj! work, 13s; assisting woman to join husband in Melbourne, 10s; for sick cases, 2 bedsteads and palliasses have .been given; alEOumedical attendance, !taid for nursing, ie", 11s. There aie on I tho labour register 73 names for work, chiefly labourers ; work has "been obtained ■for 5 men and 4 women during the month, eg wing-class held every week for poor women at tbeHomehasaveragedSO weekly, ladies assisting being Mrs Latter, Mrs -Millton, MraWalkde^Mrsßaker and others. 'The very Eev Dean Jacobs conducted Scripture reading last Tuesday, and I hope to" have present every week ministers of Christchurch ip take part in thia meeting, also every Sunday morning at the Men'o Home a short service conducted by different ministers. The Eev E. Irwin commenced the meeting. last Sunday. In this report I do sincerely return thanks to those who have assisted me in this work ; but .for the kindness of a few tradosruen the poor men would Have fared badly these hard times. August 9.
