Football. — The return match between the Leeston and Southbridge Football Clubs took place on the Leeston ground last Saturday. A good deal of interest was centred in the match, as the local team had proved victorious in all their local matches. A large number of spectators was present, to whom the result of fcho game must havo been anything but pleasant. Soon after the kick off, it was at once seen that the Lseston backs were far too good for their opponents, the heavy Southbridge forwards, however, carrying the scrimmages. The visitors seemed bent on securing a victory, continually disputing the Umpires' and Eeferee's decisions. At the conclusion of the first spell the scores stood : — Leeston, five points ; Southbridge, three. The back play of the Leestonians waa very good. A few minutes after the commencement of the second spell Donald, for Leeston, got in between the posts, from which a goal was kicked. The visitors disputed the try, but the Eefereo deciding in favour of Leeston, the Southbridge men, after somo wrangling, left the ground ; not before, however, showing rather bad taste by giving three groans for the victors. This was . replied to by the Leeston team giving the usual cheers in a hearty manner. For the victors Moorhead and Halley (forwards) and all the backs played a good game ; C. Willis (back) and Nicholson (forward) were most serviceable to the 'losers. , Ashburton Ceicket Club. — The annual general meeting of the Ashburton Cricket Club was held on Saturday evening.
