The Union Steamship Company's steamer Penguin arrived fiom northern ports tbis mornlog, at nine o'clock. Mr B. W. M'Lennan, her purser, reportßleaving Nelson at 11.40 p.m. on May IS. Koton at 7 a.m.. and Wellington at 5 p.m. on Way 16. Experenced fair weather to tficson, tbence foggy wetther to arrival. Tie steamship Botomahana of the Union Compsny'a fleet arrived in Port thiß morning from Melbourne, -via southern ports. Mr J. Neaa Keitb, parser, supplies us with files and the following account of the passage .—Left Melbourne at 4 p.m. on May 9, paesed Swan Island lit noon on the following day, and reached Bluff at 6.30 p.m. on Sunday last. Left again at 5 p.m. the following day, and reached Port Chalmers at 7 n.m. on May 35. Left again forLyttelton at 4 p.m. on May 16, and got to the wharf at 9.30 a,m. this morning. Experienced moderate variable winds to Hew Zealand, and foggy weather along the coast.

The "White Star Liner Doric, under charter to the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, arrived in Pore this morning, and came alongside Ho. 7 Wharf ac 8 R.m., when the work of discharging her cargo of merchandise was at once proceeded with, under the direction of Mr Adams, stevedore to the Company, lhe Doric comes into Port in superb condition, and fs a credit to her commander and his officers. Captain J. W. Jennings is still in command, and he has with him the following, as officers.—Mr Sowden chief, Mr H. Smith second, Mr T Joneß third, and Mr J. Breen ourtb. Dr B. A. Fall iB medical officer, Mr C. Harriß is chief steward, while Mr W. l>. Waltors Btill occupies the post of purser. To the last named gentleman we are indebted for flies, particulars of passage, Ac. Hhe lets Plymouth with one hundred and forty passengers of all olaases, of these fourteen were landed at Teneriffe, ten at Capetown, and sixty-two nt Bobart, whila one joined the vessel at Teneriffe and nine at Capetown. For New Zealand ports she brought Bixty-eight passengers, fourteen of whom were for Otano. tuenty.sevenfor Canterbury, thirteen f r Wellington, and the balance (fourteen) tor Auckland, the Canterbury passengers were sent forward from Pore Ch»lmers, and a few of the North Island passengers ate still with the ship. Bhe landed 355 tons of cargo at Hobart, another 775 tons at Porb Chalmers, whilo for tbis Port she has 250 tons, and for Wellington 603 tons. Of tbe passage we learn that she sailed from London on March 23, and Plymouth on Match 34; arrived at Teneriffe on March 30 at 6.30 a.m., and after six hours' stoppage proceeded on her voyage, and reached Capetown on April 15 at 7 a.m., where five hours were spent landing passengers and taking in supplies. Beaohed Hobart on Juoy 4, at 11 a.m., and sailed again the following day at 8 a.m., reaching Port Chalmers on May 9. left Poit Chalmers for Lyttelton at 4 p.m. on Tuesday last, but owing to tbe dense fog, was obliged to anchor at the Heads until 6 a.m. yesterday morning when another start was made» Was oS Lyttelton Beads at 2 a.m. this morninr, when the weather was still very thiok, and the anchor was pat down until daylight. Got to the wharf at 8 a.m. She ia fixed to leave tuis port for Wellington on Ha turd ay next. At tbe southern port she loaded 3534 carcases mutton, 540 quarters beef, and about 300 bales -wool.
