BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors was held yesterday atternoon ; present — Mr P. de C. Malet (Chairman) j the Most Eev the Primate^ Messrs 34. We3tenra, J. N. Tosawill, H. E. Webb, It. W. Eereday, J. V. Ptoss, L. Harper, T. TV. Maude, P. D. S. Neave, W. C. Walker, W. Chrystall, and Captain Garaia, and It. Beetham. WAIMATE HIGH SCHOOL. Mr Westenra moved — "That the Rev J. M'Kee be elected a member of the Waimate High School Board." Mr J. V. Boss seconded the motion, which was unanimously agreed to. CONTRACT. The Board authorised its seal being attached to the contract of Messrs Heinent Bros., for heating the Boys' High School by means of hot water, for On the motion of Mr Maude, seconded by Mr Neave, the Board went into Committee. On the Board's resuming, the Chairman reported tliat the following- had been paseed ; — COLLEGE COMMITTEE. " The Committee recommends the Board — (1) That Miss Henderson bo appointed first assistant teacher at the Girls' High School at a salary of J3IBO per annum. (2) That Miss Lorimer's salary be increased to £60, and that Mra Ibbott receive a bonus of £$ for work afc tbe. cooking classes during 1887. (3) That three months' notice be given to the teacher of classsinging, and that he be offered a new appointment at .£75 per annum. (4) That three months* notice be given to the teacher of drawing to determine hia appointment. (5) That the vote for bookkeeping and shorthand be reduced by .£25. (6) That the swimming master be discontinued after the present term. The Committee, in accordance with instructions from the Board, recommends that the following gentlemen be requested to act as a Corninisf ioa to appoint a Director for the Museum : Mr F. de C. Maiefc, Chairman of the Board; Mr W. H. Flower, LL.D., Director of British Mueeum, South Kensington ; Mr M. Poster, M.A., Professor of Physiology/ Cambridge ; Sir Philip Cunliffe Owen, X.C.8., Director of South Kensington Museum. The Committee reports having purchased books to the value of £7 9a out of the Library of the late Sir J uiius von Haast." The Board agreed to the*report3. HISTORICAL PORTRAITS. A letter was rt'ai from Jo)m Ollivier, Etating- that he felt disposed to present to the Board "for exhibition" his ollection o? portraits, now banging in. hisoffice in the Provincial Buildings. The offer wa3 accepted with best thanks. VALEDICTORY. Mr J. V. Eoss said he could not allow the Board to adjourn without wishing t- c Chairman n pleasant trip to the O.d Country.
