FIRE AT BOTTLE LAKE.
— — V Oat Stacks Destroyed. On Thursday evening, about six o'clock, a fire occurred on the farm of .Mr J. Hodges, Bottle Lake. The household were at tea at the time, and the alarm was given by Mra Hodges, who heard first a crackling, and on looking up through the window saw a glare of fire in ono of the four oaten sheaf stacks in the stockyard. Mr Hodges at once set to work, with all hands to help, assisted also by such neighbours as had seen the trouble. There was a northwester blowing, and it was at once seen that the stacks had to go, and that the best efforts of the willing workers had to be directed to saving tho house. The stacks were all destroyed, but, thanks to the energy with which the little band worked, the homestead was saved. Mr Hodges has lost all his oaten sheaf Btacks, all the hay he had saved for the season, and this means all his winter feed for his milch cows ; a most serious loss to a mau like Mr Hodges, depending upon hiß dairy produce for his livelihood. Tiie homestead, aa has been stated, was saved with an effort, but as there was no insurance upon the stacks of hay and oaten sheaf, Mr Hodges' loss is very severe. j
