<*►- West Christclmrcli. The usual monthly meeting was held oa Tuesday evening, March 13, at 7.30; preseni — Mr I\ G. Hawley (Chairman), Messrs D. Reese, TV. I£. Allison, J. Venables, and J. Wendelken. Mr Mannings sent an apology. Mr Allison reported on behalf of the Visiting Committee to the side school, that he had secured some soil from the Sydenhani Borough Council, and had had a man scooping and levelling, and had effected considerable improvement in the front of the grounds. The windmill had been out of order again, and the matter was reported to the Board, having been an unsatisfactory affair from the first, and they proposed putting down a new well for it. Meanwhile, to secure it against being tampered with by larrikins, the framework had been weather-boarded in, and a door put on, as agreed last meeting. The head- master forwarded the resignation of Miss Barnett, her term of apprenticeship having expired on March 10 ; and also an application from Mr David Jack for appo ; ntment as assistant-teacher, which the head-masterstrongly supported, : and it was agreed to forward both to the j Board, and recommend Mr Jack for the appointment. There will also be a female j assistant-teacher required as soon as those pupil-teachers whose terms of apprenticeship have expired have gone on to the Normal Training College. The annual swimming races in connection with the school are to be held on Friday afternoon, at two o'clock, weather permitting. The Board wrote, agreeing to appoint Miss R. Morland as assistant-teacher. It was agreed to attend the conference of School Committees at East Christchurch School on Wednesday evening. The balance to the credit o£ the Committee was .£57 17s, and accounts were passed for payment amounting to £22 12s 6d, and the meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
