WELLINGTON NOTES.

[By Telegraph.] | from otje oww correspondent.] WELLINGTON, Mahch 14. The Post this evening has the following : — " Several of our contemporaries, we notice, are inclined to gush a little over the recent advance in the values of New Zealand securities, overlooking the fact that the half-yearly dividends are due next month, and that until shares come to be quoted ex div., they show a steady increase in value as interest accrues. This does not account for the full rise in the present case, but doubtless for a good deal of it. The general condition of the money market has tended to raise Colonial stock in public favour." In the Appeal Court to-day, a matter of local interest was dealt with. , The motion on the part of the Crown to set aside the award of a Compensation Court at Ashburton, granting .£1250 and costs to Mr Allan M'Lean, in. respect of the land taken for the purposes of the Ashburfcon-Mounfc Somers Railway, was allowed with costs, Mr Justice Ward dissenting. Mr Chapman appeared 'for the Crown ; and Mr Gully, who acted for Mr M'Lean, ntiraated his intention of applying to the Christchurch Supreme Court, from which the motion had been referred for leave to appeal to the Privy Council. Mr Seed has secured 29,000 ft for NewZealand at the Melbourne Exhibition.
