FIRE INQUEST.
A BUTCHERS' QUARREL. SYMPATHY WITH IRELAND. DUNEDIN, Mabch 13. An enquiry was held to-day into the origin of the fire at a house in Cargill street, occupied by Mrs Brady. The evidence Bhowed that she had disposed of some of the furniture to a boarder, and had given other boarders notice of her intention to give up housekeeping, although she had given no notice of her intention to the landlord. She was also in monetary difficulties. The jury returned an open verdict. _ A. Dornwell, a well-known local butcher, intends bringing libel actions against a number of other butchers. A writ, claiming .£IOOO damages, has been already served on one. The alleged libel is said to haye been in a letter forwarded to a principal stock salesman. At a meeting of sympathisers with the Home Rule for Ireland movement, it was resolved, on the motion of Bishop Moran, that subscription lists be opened to aid the movement. The sum of .£SO was subscribed in the room, and it was decided to have an annual subscription.
