» L_ . . A Coroner's Enquiry. [Pee Fkess Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 15. The Coroner's enquiry into the three fires which broke out almost simultaneously on the night of Feb. 3 was resumed to-day. . A large number of witnesses waa examined. John Collins, one of those suspected of causing the fire, and now in custody, handed in a longstatement,in which he confessed that Reuben Hinds (also in ' custody) set fire to the three buildings, and he (Collins) was in his company. The jury, after a few minutes' deliberation, returned a verdict that the premises in question had been wilfully set on fire by Reuben Hinds and John Collins. Spillane's store and dwelling-house at Eketahuna was burned down this morning. The supposed cause is a bush fire. Th« insurance on the stock and furniture is J2500, and on the building, £50 in the Equitable Oih'ce.
GBEYMOUTH, Feb. 15. It has been ascertained that Perotti'a loss in machinery is over £1000, besides the loss entailed through the stoppage of the running business and the number of unexecuted orders on hand. The mill was never so busy before.
