THE PARSON AND THE WORKING MAN.

The Pall Mall Budget of Dec. 29 wrote — " The little anecdote told by the reverend gentleman who occupied the chair at an anti-coercion meeting at Battersea on Tuesday was (writes a correspondent) very much, to the point, and was mightily appreciated by the audience. He was standing the other day, he said, looking at a cartoon from United Ireland, exhibited in a shop window, depicting . some horrible scenes at an Irish eviction, when a labourer, who was standing by, said, ' Can you tell me, sir, why it is that God Almighty allows such things to be done as that ? ' ' Let me ask you/ replied the minister, 'whether you have a vote?' 'Yes, sir,' eaid the labourer. ' Did you use it at the last election ? ' ' No/ was the reply; 'I didn't think it necessary/ •Then/ said the reverend gentleman, ' before you think of complaining of God Almighty for not doing His duty, let me advise you to make sure that you have done your own.' An advice we should say that would be followed by everyone present who heard the splendid and telling oration, which took nearly two hours in its delivery, of Mr W. Kedmond, M.P. It there are any Unionists, Liberal or otherwise, who require convincing of the justice of the Irish demand, we should advise them to invite Mr Kedmond down just for an hour or' two. They will not need another lecture."
