QUEENSLAND.
A PLUCKY ACTOR. Mr J. J. Kennedy, comedian, met with a severe accident at Toowooniba when playing in " The Shatighraun." A gun accidentally burst, shattering his left hand. He, however, wenb through the performance, receiving an immense ovation on hia reappearance. THE CHINESE DIFFICULTT. All the Chinese have left the Clermont goldfields. The Warden burnt the camp, and the Chinese, now numbering 150, are camped on the outskirts of the town, and have presented a petition through their "bosses" asking for rations, as otherwise they will starve. They also ask for railway passes to enable them to get away to other places. The matter is under consideration of the Government. A disturbance of the peace is feared, and the Warden has asked for extra police protection. The ■ police attempted to arrest; one Chinaman ; on a charge of stealing from a fellow- , countryman, but the thief offered stout [ resistance, teverely stabbing the constable ! in the hand. He then escaped. A MINING REVIVAL. There is a great revival of mining at 1 Clermont. All the Cement Hill has been i taken up by two Companies of capitalists, < on*} from iSngland and the other from Sydney. It is intended to work on a largo ] scale, and employ several hundred men. ! ••— . , _,/< are 400 tons for each Company per diem. Several leading residents are leaving Clermorit next week to float the Copperfield copper mines in the English market. The Government have now instructed the Warden to. supply rations to the Chinese who are really in need of food, until they can be passed on by rail to the places they may desire t6 go to. ■ FAVOTJBABLE REPORTS. Reports from country districts in the northern part of the Colony give most cheering accounts of pastoral prospects.
