MAGISTERIAL.'

<, MAGISTRATES' COURT. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before R. Boetham, Esq., R.M.) Informations. — William Ryan, for allowing four oows to graze on Oxford terrace, was fined 53. — William Irvine, for leaving his cab unattended, was fined 53. — Andrew Stevenson, for not remaining within controllable distance of his horse and cart, was mulcted in a similar penalty. Husband and Wifb. — Ellen Trevenna charged Charlea Trevenna with leaving ker and her two children without sufficient means of support. The wife made a long statement as to the unfaithfulness of her husband, whom she had recently seen in the company of two prostitutes. She had, she said, received little or nothing from him to support either her or her children since her marriage two years ago, : and she had to work hard to support them. I In fact, during the last ten days she had : had " nothing " to eat. She afterwards ; admitted that she had been given a cup of tea, but no regular food. The accused admitted that he had not been a good hus- ! band, but pleaded that he had extreme provocation from the woman, who, when he went home, threw looking-glaBS, cups, saucers, or dishes at him. He was working at Jenkins' saw mills, and ; whenever he got any money, for he was i not in regular work, he gave most of it to his wife. He had given her 103 on the laßt Saturday morning. The Bench declined to make an order, as the complainant had obviously told an untruth about the amount of food she had had during the last ten days, and further she must bring other evidence than her own to substantiate such a charge as she made.
