CHEISTCHURCH. 3745 TEAS. " "\ TO the unitjated, no doubt, ifc is a, matter of wonderinant why there are so many Tea Shopa. Tea Merchants, and Tea Hawkers; ana why yonr groner is always anxious to sail you a pound of Tea, in preference to a pound of Sugar. Vt course, the simple answer of many is no doubt that there is a better profit on 1 ea ; but then again, Why is there a better profit on Tea than Sugar ? Our answer is j (whioh in the main will be found correct) that a large portion of the general publioare absolutely unable ! to determine a Good Tex from an Inferior one. Of course we do not wlbli to infer, but that anyone can 1 tell what they like from what they do not like, but that in many instances a Tea of medium quality is oftem preferred to a Tea of first-class merit, especially if it has a flavour the consumer has not been accustomed to. And now that some of our finest Teas are grown in othez countries as well as China, viz., India, Ceylon, Fiji, 4c, and that each ono has a distinctive feature and quality, which to a certain extent takes a little time to acquire its taste before they are fully appreciated for their proper worth, it is advisable to mis or blend a certain portion of these Teas with ordinary well-known China Teas— therefore if. is easily understood why a Tea, of first-class quality with a flavour an individual has not been accustomed to may easily be confounded with a Tea of medium quality. This is well understood by many, hence the cause of so man; tea hawkers and vendors ; in fact, we believe that some 6Qtniwholesale arms systematically sell inferior Teas, but back them up by profuse advertisements almost to the extent of Yankee Patent Medicines, which answer almost as well as giviug KOod value, and that the advertising cost one-fourth of the real value of the Tea itself ; but speaking of ourselves, we absolutely guarantee to give Value for Money— perhaps better value than many others. Of course, wa do r.ot hope to please everyone, although We have bad ten years of practical experience in the Blending of Teas, which has giv*n us opportunities of gauging the public taste pretty acourately, and even Successfully, considering that we have sold over 13,00G1b of Blended Tea, exclusive of boxes and half, chests, within the last six mnnths, which we have no hesitation in saying is more than any Retail Shop has ever done in Christchurch before, QUOTATIONS .- CHINA, BOXES OF TEA, PLAIN CHINA— IOs 6d, 12s 6a, 14s 6d, 17s 6d, and 21s HALF-CHESTS of 40lbs— lid, Is 2d, Is s£d, Is 9d, and Is lUd per lb INDIAN— Is 4d.
