MAGISTRATES' COURT. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., R.M., R. Westem-a and H. J. Hall, Esqs.) No Lawful Means of Sdppobt. — A poor old woman named Lucy Coster was charged with being without lawful excuse upon the premises o£ F. Powell, New Brighton road. Inspector Pender stated that she had been in the habit of wandering from place to place. She was in a filthy condition, and had no friends to look after her. Her husband left her some time ago, and was living at Auckland. The Bench sent her to prison for fourteen days, so that she might b« looked after, cleaned, and made comfortable. Meanwhile, tho police could make ! enquiries about the husband. | Civil Casks.— Judgment was given for i the plaintiffs by default, with costs, in the following cases :— Joynt and Adaaia v. M'Nab, claim £3 18s lOd ; Turner v. Collins, claim w2IG 6s -Id ; Phillips v. Smith, claim j .£1 ss. Ward v. Sharp was adjourned j until Nov. 3, and Bowen and Gray t. Phillips until Nov. 7.
