SUICIDE.
ASSAYS. AUCKLAND, Oct. 25. A young man named Hugh Martin, aged _ committed suicide by cutting his throat, _t Wangarei, on Wednesday morning laßt. IThe deceased had acted strangely for some daya before his death, and at the inque_t a verdict of " Temporary insanity" was returned. In an assay of the stuff from Wilson's olaim, at Whangamata, Thames, made at the Bank of New Zealand yesterday, resulted in a yield of gold and silver of the Valne of _554 18s Id per ton. A ton of stuff from Helleyar's Creek, tested by Fraser and Sons, yielded bullion worth ls 6d. At a meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday the sum of .3123 was -received from San Francisco, this being a bequest left to Auokland by Ferdinand Barth, vrtio died there some time ago. Barth resided in Auckland in 1872, and he then drew up his will, ordering the bequest to the Hospital. The Board purpose erecting a memorial to Barth. The boy Manning, recently arrested on a charge of robbery from Knott's ' store at Wairoa South, was convicted of the offence at the Papakura Court to-day, and ordered to the industrial school at Kohimarama for Bix years.
