_ «-- MAGISTRATES' COURT. CHEISTCHUECH. This Dat. (Before E Beetham, Esq., E.M.) Civil Cases. — Judgment was given for tho plaintiffs, by default, with costs in the following cases : — Sadler v. Barsht, claim £8; Stringer v. Ward, claim, £1 lis Gd; Goodman v. .Dransfield, claim, £7 7s 6d ; W. S. Iving v. Dawes, claim .£lO 17.. 2d. Mr Byrne for the plaintiff. It appeared from the evidence of tho plaintiff that some time ago ho shipped, through Mes.r3 Dawes and Co., of Sydney, on behalf of the defendant, a quantity of llock. Messrs Berry and Co. made an advance to the plaintiff. The stuff was sent to Sydney and a loss resulted on the sale. The plaintiff afterwards paid Berry and Co. the balance of tho account, amounting to .£lO 17s 2d. This amount the plaintiff now sought to recover from Dawes, who had given a promissory note which, was dishonoured when presented at the bank. Judgment was given for the plaintiff for the amount claimed with costs. LYTTELTON. (Before J. Ollivier, Esq., E.M.) THIS DAY. Petty Larceny. — The boys David Miller, Arthur Bryant, Edward Creasy, and William Deare, who were tried and found guilty last week for stealing peas from a railway truck, now came up for sentence. His Worship said it was a very serious case, and after going into the facts, he felt that he could not dismiss it. Miller, he considered, was the chief mover in the matter, and he would be fined £'L, or in default, OG hours' imprisonment, and the other accused would be fined £1 each, or in default, 48 hours' imprisonment. Judgment Summons. — J. F. Willcox v. G. Adams, claim £9 12s. Mr H. N. Nalder appeared for plaintiff. Judgment had boen obtained some time ago, and it appeared from the evidence of Mr Willcox that Adams had left the place and gone to Greymouth, where he was at work. The necessary money had been sent to pay defendent's fare to Lyttolton, but he had not put in an appearance. The amount was ordered to be paid forthwith, or defendant to be imprisoned for one month.
