FIFTY MILES BICYCLE ROAD RACE.

Quite a small army of cyclists assembled this lnorningat 6 o'clock to witness the start for tho Fifty Miles Road Race. The route was over the Christchurch-Lseston road, via, the "Wheatsheaf, and back to town. Nine competitors faced the starter, viz. : — A. "W. Pillow, C.B.C Scr. E. Bargrove, P.B.C „ Nathan Hall, P.B.C. smin. ! C. Nankeville, C.B.C 5 „ | J. Alexander, P.B.C 10,, | E. Button, P.B.C 12 „ A. Caro, P.B.C ... 15 „ J. Best, P.B.C 15 „ A. J. Smith, P.B.C 20,, After the group had been photographed by Mr A. E. Preece, a start was made at 6.15 a.m., the pace being pretty warm all the way out to Leeston. The winner, Mr R. Bargrove, P.B.C, arrived at the winning post at 9.50 a.m., doing the fifty miles in 3hr 35min from scratch, and lowering the record by eight minutes. This is considered a very good performance, considering the strong easterly wind which he had to contend with hi 3 return journey. The second to arrive was Nathan Hall,' P.B.C, at 10.8 a.m ; third, A. W. Pillow, C.B.C, 10.18 a.m. ; fourth, J. Alexander, P.B.C, 10.38 a.m. The winner rode a 52in New Eapid. Mr G. W. Allan, Press Company, acted as Judge and Starter.
