Guinness, Esq.) Drunkenness.— A female first offender, arrested in Montreal street, was fined ss. — Margaret Mahoney alias Griffiths, arrested in High Btreet, was fined 103, &ud severely cautioned not to appear again. — Maryßenton, arrested in Hereford street, was fined 203, and 23 cab hire.

A Waif. — William Heywood, an illegi- | mate coloured child, aged about four years, | was charged with being found wandering in Hereford street, and with having no visible means of support. Mr Pender ex- ! plained that the child's father had cleared j oub, and that his mother, Margaret Hey- | wood, had aince married a man named Lee . Mr Slater here appealed for Lee. The Bench made an order for 6s 8d a week against the mother, the father to bear half j the cost if he was found in the meantime, j and the child would be sent to Burnbam to be brought up in the faith oE his mother.

Wipe Desertion. — Michael Dineeuwas charged with deserting hi 3 wife, Lizzie Dineen, and leaving her destitute. From tho evidence it appeared thai the'defendant was a book agent, and that when arrested on the charge he was drunk, and had a bottle of sherry in one pocket and a bottle of claret in the other. The wife said that her husband hud only given her 7s Gd dariug the last few weeks, besides £2 taken from him by her when he was drunk. Accused stated that besides these sums he had given his wife 193 6d. He was willing to give jgl 2a found on him when, arrested, and allow her =£1 5a a week.
