Mr Crowes.

Sib, — it is, I believe, an understood thing that Mr John Crewes considers himself just as well qualified to take office in the next Ministry as any other man. I hear, also, that the Political Reformers express themselves very much struck with the ability displayed in Mr C' 3 recent speeches. They had no idea, until three weeks ago, that he was such a clever man. Bless theirinnocence, whatalot they are learning. Are we to suppose that Mr Crewes is to be one of the " new men " who are to supersede Atkinson, Eolle3ton, Stout, and Yogel ? As it seems to be a choice between these " new men " and Sir Julius Yogel, I should like to quote two little verses which you, Mr Editor, printed three years ago, when Mr Crewes was a candidate for Christchurch North .—

There's a preacher who no longer to us preaches, Since ho took to selling papers, ink and pens ; Whose capacity for very windy speeches Fully equals any forty other men's. Though hilarity we courteously smother, While candidates explain "revolving views," ' Yet, take one consideration with another, We don't intend to VOTE for Mr Crewes.

Though a preacher lose his appetite for preaching, And find his flock no longer yield him wool, He really shouldn't take to platform screeching, And bellow at a fellow like a bull. For Georgie Grey some working men may ogle, May captivate them, every mother's son; BUT, when it comes to Ceewes instead of YOGEL, The uhoice should be a very easy one.

Crewes or Yogel. Great Ciesar, what a choice !

I am, &c, MIDLAND RAILWAY.
