THE CHARGE AGAINST AMY MERSON.
At the Resident. Magistrate Court, thia morning, before E. Beethain, Esq., E.M., Amy. Mersoa, %yho was arrested at Port Chalmers and remanded to Christchurch on bail, was charged under the 91st section ox the Bankruptcy Act -with larceny as a bailee of J250 of the goods of the Official Assignee. Mr Wilding appeared to prosecute, and said that ths facts of the case were these—Mr Merson was a storekeeper in Lyttelton, and became bankrupt, and about August 23 last he left Lyttelton, for Melbourne, leaving debts behind, amounting to over £4,00 The assets, consisting of stock-in-trade furniture, &c, were left in the hands of the accused, Mrs Merson, who realised a sum of £133 on them. None of this money had been devoted to the creditors, or reached the hands of the Official AssigneeThe information was laid against Mrs Merson for taking the money and leaving to join her husband at .Melbourne. Mi Wilding was not prepared to go on with the case that morning, and asked , for a remand. Mr Stringer appeared for Mrs Merson, and had no objection to the remand, but asked that moderate bail might be given. He explained that the money she was charged with appropriating wa3 paid into the bank, and it was Bimply absorbed by them. Only 3s lOd had been found upon her. Mr Beetham adjourned the case until Sept. 20, and fixed the bail of two sureties at .£IOO each.
