NOTES.
Every Saturday" evening a number of members o£ the Christchurch Bicycle Club make up races in the Club rooms, Inglis' Buildings, on the home-trainer, which was constructed by Mr N. o<*teo. Last Saturday the distance was half-a-mile, and was won by Mr T. H. North, in 72soc with Bsec start. The winner of every race is presented with a silver medal. These races are splendid training, and we would advise all those members who have any intention of racing this year to roll up on Saturday evenings, and " see what they can do.*'
Mr J. H. C. Bamlett started from Riccarton on Saturday, at 12 noon, to establish.* 50-f»il«s trjcycla roa^ jracpjcfl, Lin,-.
coin was reached in 55 minutes, and Doyleston (25 miles), in 2 hours ] 4 minutes. Coming back a stiff easterly wind was much against the tricyclist, who was seized with cramp at Lincoln, which caused his retirement. Acting on the motto of "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again," Mr Bamlett made a third attempt yesterday, and succeeded in doing the 50 miles in 5 hours 18 minutes, which must, under the ciroumstances, be considered a good performance, the wind being adverse each way. On Tuesday or Wednesday next Mr P. D. Mansell intends to try and lower the 50-mile record, and later on to establish a " Safety " record for 50 or 20 miles. The fine weather lately has improved the roads wonderfully, and cyclists can safely ride in almost any direction now. It is with regret that we have to report that Mr F. Tracy, of the C.8.C., is still lying dangerously ill. Mr W. Bean, C.8.C., who went North with the football team, states that he was very cordially received up North, the members of the Auckland Club making it their duty to meet the New Zealand champion when the steamer arrived. A run of about 30 miles was got up on his behalf, and when coming away he was presented with two large photographs of the members of this Club and their bicycles — one for the C.B.C. and the other for himself. He speaks very highly of his reception, and states that they were " jolly good fellows." This speakß well for the good feeling existing between the Clubs of New Zealand.
