FATAL ACCIDENT.

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 25.
A fireman named David Ironsides, on the Hawera-New Plymouth train, was killed at 4> p.m. to-day. Just as the train was nearing the Ngafcoro Bridge, near Inglewood, the deceased put his head out to see 'whether the tracks containing sheep were right. The train in the meantime dashed on to the bridge, and the accused overbalanced himself and fell. In his fall his head came in contact with the bridge, infiioting a fracture of the skull. Death was almost instantaneous. The enginedriver gave the signal to stop the train, and it waß pulled up about a quarter of a mile away from the bridge. On returning the deceased was found to have a fearful gash on the back of his head, and quite insensible. He died before he was lifted into the train. He was a single man, and has relations in Wanganui. He was to have been married next week. His body was brought to New Plymouth, and an inquest will be held to-morrow.
