MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
This Day. CHBISTCHURCH. (Before John Ollivier, Esq., R.M.) Civil Cases. — Judgment was given, for the plaintiffs by default with costs in the following cases : — Whitcombe and Tombs v. Reynolds, claim £2 14s 2d; Moir and Co. r. Smith, claim <£18 7s; Culver v. Adams, claim £5 lGs 3d ; Lake and Evans v. , claim 18s 9d; Fenning v.
Palmer, claim £2 ; Stringer v. Proudfoot, claim £2 la. — Watt v. Byan, claim £6 15s for nine loads of offal at 15b. Mr Russell appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Hoban for the defendant, who paid £4 2s 6d into Court. The only dispute was about the price. The plaintiff swore that the price was to be 15s a load for the offal, and the defendant that it was only 7s Cd. Mr Ollivier said that he would split the difference, and ga7e judgment for nine loads at 10s and costs against the defendant. —Armstrong v. Harris, claim J6ll Gs lid, for goods supplied. Mr Deacon for the plaintiff, Mr Bowman for the defendant. The plaintiff is a storekeeper carrying on business at Springston, and the defendant a farmer in the district. Mrs Harris, defendant's wife, swore in a mo3fc decided manner that she paid for every item in the account. This was contradicted by the plaintiff and his wife and other witnesses. Mr Ollivier had no difficulty in giving judgment for the plaintiff. The evidence of Mrs Harris could not be relied on. Judgment for the plaintiff for .£lO IGs 5d and costs.
