Sik, — I am reported to have said in. my address at Bright'B road on Tuesday evening, that I would be in favour of reducing the pay of the railway employees sixpence per day. I did not say so. What I did said was this : that when in Wellington I heard many saying that JE37,000 per annum could be saved by such reduction. In the questioning also lam reported to have said Gsperday wasafairwage. I said., very much like this, that I would pay 63, or 7a, or 83, for special work. And •also I am reported to have proposed a reduction of .£5500 in the expenses of the Governor j my proposal was .£2500. The meeting was not all quietude or sweetness, and it wa3 not easy at times to report correctly.— l am, &c,
