ST ALBANS.

For or Against, TO THE EDITOR OF THE 6TAJB. Sir, — I have been waiting for the appearance of a candidate for this district, who will support the Stout- Vogel Government, as I cannot support our present unreliable member, Mr GarricTc. We requite a member who will support our Local Industries by a Protective policy. We require our primary schools maintained in their present efficient state ; also the estenBion of the eight hours' system to all retail trades ; retrenchment, fair and just ; the extension of the Village Settlements System. As Ido not see any benefit likely to come to Canterbury from any Hal]/. Atkinson combination, I must give my vota and interest to the present Government. At the present time we want- a member who will not play into the hands of the Opposition.— l am, &c, ALEXANDER OWEN.
