The Political Reformers. — A crowded meeting at Linwood, last night, decisively repulsed the cru6ade of the Political Eeform Association, though its views were, promulgated with much eloquence by its spokesmen. The proceedings were orderly, excepting when attacks wore made upon the public or private character of the Premier and the Colonial Treasurer, and the Chairman had no difficulty in ruling the meeting even then. That the remarks of the speakers were attentively listened to waß shown by the numerous interjections, which, indeed, during some of the speeches, were so frequent that the proceedings assumed the aspect of a conversational discussion between, the speaker and the audience. A report of the proceedings appears elsewhere in this issue.

Industrial Conversazione. — We are glad to learn that the Industrial Association Committee have arranged to open the Tuam Street Hall Exhibition on Saturday afternoon from 2 till 5 o'clock for the convenience of country visitors. Opportunity will also be afforded by this arrange ment for parents to take their children.

Jubilee Fountain. — The Committee appointed to carry out arrangements in connection with the sinking of. the Jubilee artesian well at Bangiora mat last night. A letter from the Chrißtchurch City Council agreeing to spare the Borough Council 250 ft of (Jin pipeßwas read 5 and it was decided to accept a tender from Mr Grant, of Christchurch, for putting down the well. It is expected that the work will be completed by the end of next month.

An Indian Missionary.— In the Baptist Church Schoolroom, this evening, at 7.30, an address will be delivered by Miss Newcombe, who leaves shortly to undertake special missionary work in India. The Ho&idat. — The town had quite a holiday appearance this afternoon, being the occasion of the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton. Many of the shops and offices were closed.

Musicai. Society. — The performance of " Eli " by this Society at an early date may be expected to be highly satisfactory, as the choral rehearsals are being well attended. A weekly practice of the largest orchestra yet got together in this city is being worked up with mu".h spirit under Mr A. Corrick, so that an amalgamation surpassing any thing yet donebythe Society may be expected.

Ltttem'ON Orphanage. — At a recent meeting of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union it wag decided, subject to tho approval of the Orphanage Committee, to establish Band of Hope meetings in connection with the Lyttelton Orphanage. The inaugural meeting was held last evening, when the Eev Eliot Chambers took the chair, and an address was given by Mr "W. P&rkes on the " Advantages of Bands of Hope." During the evening, the Band played a selection, and several items were contributed by young friends from Christchurch, including recitations by MiBS Mabel Macgregor and Master 0. Hamilton, and selections on the bells by Miss L. Parkes. Judging from the interest taken in the meeting, the movement bids fair to be very successful, as it tends both to the enjoyment and profit of the children.

Ambulance Lecture. — The last of the series of lectures on " Nursing," for ladies, was delivered yesterday by Vv Frankish. There was a fall attendance, about 50 being present. An examination takes place next; week.
