POULTRY SHOW.

THE PREMIER.

AURIFEROUS SAND

WELLINGTON, July 23,

The Wellington Poultry and Dog Show was opened by the Governor this afternoon. The entries ara more numerous than in previous years, as regards the exhibition of poultry, but the dogs are rather poor. Sir Robert Stout left for Auckland in the Mararoa this evening, and he will probably address a political meeting there. The sand taken from Mr J. B. Smith's property at Waitoa, Auckland, and forwarded to the Geological Department last Monday, has been analysed by Mr Sfeey and found to contain a good percentage of gold. The result of the test has been forwarded to Mr Smith, who is now in Christchurch endeavouring to form a Company to work the deposit.
