A Sad Fatality.
• CAKRIED OUT FROM THE BEACH. [By Telegraph.] [from oub own cokbespondent/) HOKITIKA, March 11. An accident happened at about 4 o'olook this afternoon, which has cast a feeling of gloom over the community. At the time mentioned Mr Henry Harvey, Secretary to the Hokitika Harbour Board, accompanied by three other gentlemen, went to bathe in the sea, on the north beach, to the rear of the protection works. Mr Harvey plunged in first, and as the current set outward he was carried out further than he anticipated. Mr Henderson followed him, and the current also greatly affected his progress. Suddenly Mr Harvey cried out, and was then carried away to sea, sinking immediately, Mr Henderson narrowly escaping the same fate. The other two bathers had not ventured in so far. The body has not yet been recovered. The deceased was a genial and popular resident, and was universally respected, and is deeply lamented. He leaves a widow and four children. The deceased met a friend shortly before bathing, and expressed a disinclination to go into the sea, as he was not a particularly good swimmer.
