Her Majesty's Jubilee.

THB MEETING IN THE T¥AM STREET HALL. GREAT ENTHUSIASM. A very largely attended public meeting was held last evening, in the Tuain Street Hall, for the purpose of considering the question of the celebration in Canterbury of Her Majesty's Jubilee. The chair was taken by His Worship the Mayor, who had on his right hand the Most Rev the Primate and His Honor Mr Justice Johnston. On the stage were representative men of every class of the community. In the gallery were a number of ladies. The Chairman, who was welcomed with loud applause, opened the business punctually at 8 o'clock. He had received letters | of apology from the following gentlemen : — I The Rev T. Plavell, Messrs H. Thomson, John Holmes, M.H.R., C. C. Bowen, T. I. Joynt, W. D. Meares, H. B. Gresson, Den- | niston, J. P. Jameson, Rev C. Bowen, Rev W. E. Gillam, Yen Archdeacon Lingard, Sir John Hall, Mr E. C. Latter, His Honor Mr Justice Ward, Rev Father Ginaty, Messrs C. Kiver, C. W. Purnell, I>. Clarkson, Rev H. C. M. Watson, Mr John Joyce, Mr Moore (of Kaiapoi), Dr Patrick, and Mr J. Ollivier.' All these expressed, sympathy with the objects of the meeting. (Applause.) He would like to mention that since he had come into the hall Mr C. J. Nutt had made him a present of a medal struck to commemorate the occasion. He would read the first resolution as follows : — •' That, in the opinion of this meeting, a substantial memorial, dedicated to Her Majesty the Queen, and a fitting celebration of Her Jubilee, should be organised in Canterbury "—and call upon the Most Rev the Primate to move it. (Applause.)
