Waimakariri Harbour Board.
« The adjourned monthly mating of this body was held on Thursday evening ; preBent — Messrs R. Moore (Chairman), Oram, Paehby, E. Smethurst and W. Moody. Letters were read : — From E. Coup for warding his resignation asamemberof the Board. From the Marine Department, enclosing a letter from the Bangiora and Mandeville Board re elections, with Mr T. I. Joynt's opinion on same, to the effect that, in all elections a returning-officer could legally be appointed by each local body within the Harbour Boards district, The opinion of Mr Nalder, solicitor to the Board, was also read, and it was resolved to forward a copy of Bame, with the Board's answer, to the Government. The pilot reported that he had been unable to buoy the river, or take soundings, owing to freshets. Painting would be required before winter at Jtha Signal House. A letter was read from the Public Works Department to the effect that the plans of wharf submitted might be strong enough for an ordinary wharf, but entirely too light for railway purposes. Under these circumstances it would be advisable for the Board to meet the Engineer of the Department before committing themselveß to the proposed expenditure, as it must be manifest that Government could not go to the expense of laying down a siding till assured that the Board were prepared to complete a tangible scheme. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Smethurst, seconded by Mr Oram — "That the letter be received, and the Board meet the Engineer at an. early date to consult as to what alterations to the wharf are necessary." The Treasurer reported a balance in hand of JJ64 13s 4d. Accounts amounting to .£l9 9s 6d were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
