Canterbury College.

THIS DAT. An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors was held this afternoon ; present — Mr F. de C. Malet (Chairman), and Messrs W. Montgomery, W. H. Spackman, E. Weatenra, E. Beetham, R. W. Feredsy, R. H. Webb, the Hon E. C. J. Stevens, Captain Garsia. RANGIORA HISH SCHOOL. A letter was read from Mr A. H. Cunningham, stating that Mr C. E. Tribe had resigned his teat on the Eangiora High School Board, and recommending Mr "W. Waterton for the vacart seat. On the motion of Mr Montgomery* seconded by Captain Gama, Mr Waterton was elected. LEA.VB OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence for six months was granted to Mr L. Harper on the motion of Mr Westenra, seconded by Mr Beetham. COLLEGE COMMITTBE'B BKPORT. The following was read :— " The Committee recommends the Board to accept the resignation of Mr Hogben,. second master of the Boys' High School, from Dec. 31, 1886. The Committee recommends the Board to grant senior scholarships of the Boys' High School (amounting to remission of fees for one year) to E. Norris and W. Pye." The Board agreed to date Mr Hogben's resignation as from Jan. 10, 1887, the headmaster of the High School recommending to this effect. The Board concurred in the recommendation of the Committee as to the senior scholarships in the Boys' High School. boys' high school. The Chairman Baid that the head master recommended the appointment of Mr B. M. Ltting, M.A., as a Science Master of the High School, and recommended also that the salaries of the other masters should be adjusted without the place of Mr Hogben being filled up. The Board here went into Committee, and on its resuming, The Chairman announced that Mr £. M. Laing had been appointed as Science Master, at a salary of .£275 a year, Bubject to a term's notice on either side. SCHOOL OF ART. The following also was agreed to : — "The Committee recommends the Board to make* the following appointments at the School of Art, viz. : Mr A. Walsh, AssistantMaster, at a salary of .£l5O per annum. Mr Scott to teach in the Technical Department, at a salary of £75 per annum. Mr W. E. Chapman, Assistant-Master, at a salary of £80 per annum." After dealing with the report of the Reserves Committee, the Board adjourned.
