The hollow victory which the Australians*. scored over the Otago twenty-two was? wholly due to the fielding of the local men, which,, with few exceptions, wast simply execrable. Trumble, who is creditect with 52 runs, had three lives before he had. got into double figures, two of the chances being from balls skied high. Jarvis, Bruceand Jones, however, batted in fine stvlethe latter playing superb cricket, his hitting being well timed and neat. Leg play and cuts seem to be his forte. NeitherFrith nor Hewatt, who did all the bowling in the first innings, succeeded in taking •_» wicket in the second. The Australians leave for Chriiitchurcl-to-morrow morning.
