ST ALBANS.

The contest was a close one, those ratepayers who exercised the franchise being about equally divided in opinion as to who should be Mayor. The result, as will be seen below, was the re-election of Mr Bull, the majority being almost identical with that which put Mr Ayers back again on to the civic throne of Christchurch. Shortly before 7 p.m. Mr Beatson announced the result as follows : — Bull, Benjamin 171 Neate, W.J 167 Majority for Bull ... 4 There were three informal votes recorded. Mr Bull thanked the ratepayers for the confidence they bad reposed in him in electing him to the office for a third year. He also proposed a vote of thanks to the Re-turning-Officer, which was carried by acclamation. Mr Neate was not present when the result was announced.
