THE STRANDING OF THE MAWHERA.
[Per Pbb?b Assocutioh], Gbetkovth, Nov. 7. A Jffagisterial enquiry was held into the stranding of the stiiamer Mowhera on Oct 29, at the mouth of the Grey river, before Major Keddell, E.M.. ; S. Keeble, master of the steamer Timaru ; and E. Fntser, master mariner, Nautical Assessors. The principal witnesses examined were Captain Hill, of the Mawhera; the Chief Engineer and Boatswain; Captain Nolan, of tho tug Westland; and the Harbourmaster and Signalman. The evidence taken was voluminous. The Magistrate gave hia decision thja uvening. He says the stranding of the vessel appears by the evidence to be attributable to want of caret nl seaiuan«l>ip on the port of her master when crossing tha bar in tow of a tug, and a number of reasons are given to account for the decision of the Magistral. He conoludesby suspending the certificate of Captain Hill for three months from this date, and requiring him to pay the costs of the enquiry, £U 10s. The Nautical Assessors concurred in this decision.
