The New Hebrides Question.
[Psb Pbbbs Association.] WELLINGTON, June 21. The Premier has received a cable message from the Agent-General confirming the Pxess messages as to the French Government having given instructions for hauling down the French flag should it have been hoisted at the New Hebrides. Ia St John's Presbyterian Church yesterday, the Bey Mr Patterson announced that news had been received from the New Hebrides of tie death of Mrs Charles Murray, tke wife of the Rev Charles Murray, Presbyterian missionary at Ambryn, one of the New Hebrides group. Mr Patterson, in referring^ to proposed annexation of the New Hebrides by France, said : — " We know that where a Catholic Power prevail?, Chrisb-like missions are not allowed to be carried on with freedom, and experience tella us that such missions are in time broken up. I trust that Great Britain will stand firm in opposing the annexation, as it would be cruel and uujust to hand over the islanda to a nation which has professedly for its object tlio trading of the Natives from thv-ir homes for the purpose of working in other islands."
