COMPENSATION CASES.
WAIMEA PLAINS EAILWAT. DUNEDIN, Jxjnb 21. The City Council met to-night with the ostensible view of holding an enquiry into the recent blasting accident. The Mayor stated that he had not prepared his report, and that if the enquiry was to go on he would only allow Councillors to speak once, and any questions must be put through him. It waa decided to adjourn till the cases pending were settled. An arrangement has been come to in the minor cases, and the others are in a fair way of being settled. At the annual meeting of the Waimea Plains Eailway Company, the Directors' proposal to sell the line to the ''i->vernment wa3 adopted. It wan -..ated that the shareholders might expect to get twothirda of their capital back.
