♦ ADJOUENED MEETING. [Vbb Pbsbs Abpoclltion.J WELLINGTON, J»he 21. The adjourned meeting of the Government Life Insurance Association this evening was well attended. Bir J. Yogel presided. The discussion on Mr B«ll's resolution, "That it is desirable the business of the Association should be returned to the charge of the GoverDi»«nV was resumed. Messrs Dargaville, Eolleston and Scobie Mackenzie spoke in favour of the motion. Mr J. Duthie, who recently accepted a seat on the Board as nominated member, spoke against the motion, and favoured the Government having preponderate of power. Mr G. Fisher and Mr W. T. L. Tiavers opposed the motion. Sir J. Yogel 6aid that bo lav as he was concerned he did not «ar« whether all the memberß were elected, provided the Government were allowed to appoint the Chairman. He intimated that the expressions of opinion given bj the meeting on the resolution would be printed and forwarded to policy- holders for their opinion. The motion was then put with the following result : — For : Hands held np, 4.4 ; proxies, 72; total, 116. Againct: Hands held up, 38 ; proxies, 206 ; total, 244. The motion was declared loßt. Messrs Dargaville and Shrimski demanded a poll. « Mr Bell's second motion, which was as follows, was then put : — " 1. That the Board should be reduced to six members, of whom three should be elected, and the other three should be the Solicitor-General, the Secretary to the Treasury, and either the Public Trustee or the Property Tax CommiEsioner, three to be a quorum, if the Chairman be present, or fonr if the Chairman .be not present. 2. That tho Government appoint ona of the members of the Board to be Chairman. s}. That each official member of the Board thould receive an honorarium of 50 guinoas, and each elected member should receive 100 guineas per annum, and the Chairman Buch cum in addition as the Board may fix, not exceeding JB2OO. 4. That the nominated members 6hiill cease to be members of the Board on the day the Act comes into operation, and shall not be re-appointed. 5. That power should be I given to the Board at its option to grant compensation to officere on retirement, and make compassionate allowances to the widows and young children of officers who die whilst in the service. 6. That in ease of any fresh appointment of the Commissioner and Actuary, the Board's power shall be exercised, subject to the approval of the Governor." These were lo3t, and a poll demanded. Mr Fipher then moved—" 1. That the Central Board be reconstituted, and consist of seven members, four to be elected by the policy-holders, and three to be nominated by th« Government ; the three nominated members not to be officers of the Government. '-'. That the Board so reconstituted sh.all its own Chairman, o. That tbt; honorarium be fixed at JEIOO for each raoraber of the Bonrd, except tho Chairman of Directors, who Khali roeeive .£3OO per annum."
