Illegally on Pbbkisbs. — Henry Lee, for having been at night without lawful excuse in an unoccupied house in Colombo. street, belonging to R. Deacon, waa sent to gaol for fourteen days. Case Dismissed. — Edward Emil Dransfield was charged with having, on Jane 18, unlawfully assaulted Louisa. Crook, in order to prevent his lawful arrest for attempting to commit a felony, Mr Corr appeared for the accused. On the application of Inspector Pender, witnesses were ordered out of Court. From the evidence for the prosecution, it appeared that coal and wood had for a considerable time been missed by the prosccutrix^e employer, Mrs Richards, of Kilmore street, and that Constable Dillon, had been told off to watch at night for the thief. On Friday evening, before the constable's arrival, the girl Crook went into the woodshed, and was knocked down and brutally kicked by a man who had evidently come there for plunder, and whom she identified aa the accused. It appeared, however, that coon after the assault, before she had fully recovered from the unconscious state into which she had fallen, the accused had been brought before her, and she had said then that she did not think he was the man. The Bench did not consider the evidence of identification sufficient to warrant them in committing the accused, and the case was dismissed.
