The Midland Railway Contract.
I The news published this morning that at contract has been let "for the construction of thirty miles of the Midland Bailway occasioned a very general feeling of satisfaction in town. This contract is, probably, for the section from Spiingfield to Arthur's Pass, where a tunnel will have to be made, and will, it is to be presumed, form the subject of another contract. When the delegates from Canterbury and Nelson went to England to place the scheme on the London, market, they took with them sets of maps and drawings of the most complete description, the refcult of careful detail surveys of the entire route. So complete and accurate wree these that they wore pronounced by those who inspected them to be the best that had ever been Bent to England in connection with an undertaking of the kind. Besides the maps, the delegates had in thsir possession specimens of the various descriptions of stone through which cuttings, &c, would require to be made. It will thus be seen that the Company recently formed in London is in possession of all the information necessary to enable contracts for the work to be let at once.
