The Morning Post states that M. De Preycinet declares that the war«hip Dives has not been ordered to the New Hebrides for the purpose of hoisting the French flag. The Times publishes Sir Andrew Clarke's despatch on the New Hebrides question, in which he states that if the French flag is hoisted it would be flatly contrary to the plain engagement entered into by France, and would be a most dishonourable act on the part of that country. The Standard considers that Lord Eoseberry must ask for reparation, and that it would be better to quarrel with France than with the Colonies. The fruit by the Iberia is frostbitten, and damages have been claimed from the Orient* Company by the shippers. The Chief of the Badahshaws in Tartary has seized and confined Colonel Lockhardt's party, who are •ngaged upon the work of delimiting the Afghan frontier.
