The Kimberley Rush.
Mr W. J. O'Donnell, the well-known explorer (says the Melbourne Aryus), writing from Cambridge Gulf on March 20, to a friend in Melbourne, says :— " lam glad to say that some men have just arrived here from the new diggings, and report most encouragingly of it. There are some G8 or 70 prospectors on tho field, and all are getting good gold. Tho^e who are here have shown me the ' stuff.' Ifc is splendid coarse gold — two pieces of ifc weighing nearly 12dwt. These men had to come down for supplies, aud they start back again to-morrow with us. They got 28oz in a few days, and never stopped more than two nights in one camp. This Cambridge Gulf ia a grand harbour, and ere long will be a place of great importance. There are two stores here already, and more coming. Our Government Resident, Customs officers, police, <tc, are daily expected from Perth. We go from there straij/ht to the diggings, to which place I am going to try and open a short cut through the ranges. Provisions are very high here, but fortunately we b"oiight large supplies with us, aud so are prepared for a twelve months' trip."
