ARBITRATION.

TEE AMERICAN WHALEB CASE. AUCKLAND, June 12. An arbitration enquiry of exceptional importance has just closed here. It dealt with matters in dispute between Messrs Eich, Pounds, Dilworth, Howard, Walker, Wilson, and Williams, in respect of the Patetere,Whaitikuaunui and Eangitanuku blocks in the Waikato, and affected money amounting to some .£300,000. Messrs J. Aitken Connell, J. Chambers and J. M. Lennox were the arbitrators, and their award has given general satisfaction. Mr Connell directed the whole of the enquiry. The enquiry at Eussell into the alleged cruelties on board the American whaler Petrel is still proceeding. The Court is sitting ten hours daily, and twelve witnesses have yet to be examined.
