The Titan Telegraphed For.

"Tie Grafton hitched on to the Lyttelton and commenced towing at eight o'clock tni3 id >rn ing, and we all remarked that the Bteamer was steering a wrong course as far as we landsmen could judge, and keeping too wide out from the breakwater. We abo thought that the warp was on the wrong side of the Lyttelton. After a time we Baw her let go her anchor, and a few minutes afterwards one of us remarked that she was not in good trim, as she was slightly down

by the head ; another few minuteß passed and the remark was made that the Lyttelton was sinfeinsr, but we only laughed at the idea of a splendid vessel, well found and manned, foundering in our harbour without any visible cause, as it appeared to us. But the remark turned out to be only too truf . as almost before the laugh had died away, ■we found that that, the Lyttelton was indeed sinking, and in thirty minutes from the time the nnnhor was let go she was as you see her now. I think that the pilot did the only thiuj? rhat could be done under the circumstances, viz., let gothe anchor, as the LytteHon waa getting into shallow water, and it wa9 cecessary to do what was done to give tinie for the Grafton to get into position again." The foregoing is the narrative of a gentlenun who, v'ith a number of others, was standing on the wharf at the time the occurrence took place. A special meeting of the Harbour Board was held this afternoon, and the Board d Q termined to telegraph for their tug Titan, which ia expected to arrive tomorrow.
