A rather stormy meeting of tho members of tho Mutual Provident Society has been held, which disapproved of the action of tho Society opening business in Great Britain. Mr Gaunson has given notice o? a motion, expressing approval of Mr Gladstone's Homo Ruie Bill. Tbe defence force is being reduced to a
' peace footing by a gradual reduction of its strength. Mr Bent has been elected leader of the Opposition.
