The Mayor has received the following additional telegrams from Mr Jordan, Mayor of Tauranga : — " Taubanga, 11.15 a.m. " The atmosphere is clearer. One family was smothered at Wairoa. Coaches have left here to meet refugees from Ohinemutu." " Taubanga, 1.50 p.m. | "No eruptions for some time. Atmosphere clearing. Excitement subsided." The Mayor also received the following message from Mr D. Lundon, Tauranga :— '* Eruption confined to Lakes Tarawera ! and Wairoa. Tauranga is bothered with j falling duat ; at times it is total darkness, j Five active craters are at play." j In reply to a telegram from the Mayor ! of Auckland, the following message was , received : — i " Wellington, Thursday, 2.54 p.m. "His Worship W. B. Waddell, Esq.,' " Auckland. j " We are sending Hinemoa to Tauranga. | Wire what assistance is desired. We are looking after refugees. " Bobebt Stout."
